Create Categories in a form:

To set up Method 3 using Dynamic Fields, you will create two separate forms: one to act as your category creator, and one to collect your main entries.

Step 1: Create Form A (The Category Creator)

This form will only be used to submit new category names.

  1. Create a new form and name it Category Creator.
  2. Drag a Text field into the form and label it Category Name.
  3. Save and publish this form.
  4. Submit a few test entries (e.g., “Technology”, “Health”, “Finance”) so you have data to work with.

Step 2: Create Form B (The Main Submission Form)

This form will pull the category list dynamically from Form A.

  1. Create your main submission form (e.g., Product Submission or Contact Form).
  2. Drag a Dynamic field into this form and label it Select Category.
  3. Click on the Dynamic field to open its Field Options on the left panel.
  4. Under the Display as setting, choose Dropdown, Radio Buttons, or Checkboxes.
  5. In the Load Options From settings, configure the dropdowns exactly like this:
    • Form: Select Category Creator (Form A).
    • Field: Select Category Name.
  6. Save your form.

Step 3: Link a Text Field for On-the-Fly Creation (Optional)

If you want users to be able to type a brand new category directly inside Form B without going back to Form A, you can link them together.

  1. Open Form B in the builder.
  2. In the Field Options for your Dynamic field, look for the In-section addition or Add New setting.
  3. Check the box to allow users to add new options on the fly.

Now, when a user submits Form B with a new category, Formidable will automatically inject that new term into Form A’s database, making it available for future users.
